Selene loves animals and this is her page to explore and learn all about them (with her mother...).

Komodo dragons
I think komodo dragons are very cool. They can kill a bear in 5 minutes. They have really strong poisonous saliva. They are the biggest lizards on earth. My friend Stevie told me about them. Komodo dragons will eat almost anything. I wish I could see one real alive. They live far far away from America (in Indonesia). And what you do when you see a komodo dragon is freeze. I think they are very cool, only they will kill humans and eat them. Here is a website to find more info.

baby white lion and white lion
White lions live in Africa. This is a boy white lion and a baby white lion. They are very cute. White lions are not albinos. They are white because of a recessive gene. They vary from blonde to almost white. Here's a link to wikipedia about white lions.

Western tanager
I think these are very cute and the prettiest bird in the western forests. They have 4 colors: red, white, black and yellow. Did you know that birds are actually dinosaurs? Scientists think dinosaurs changed into birds. They're what's left of the dinosaurs so dinosaurs are technically still alive!
Here's a link to a good website about birds and the sounds of the western tanager.

Moonfish and Selene vomers
This is a moon fish. Its like a Selene vomer. There's a difference.
This is a Selene vomer. Selene vomers are also called a lookdown.
Can't you see the difference? As you can see, a Selene vomer, you can see the bones. But with a moon fish you can't. Also, a Selene vomer has stuff sticking out and their fins are different. And also a Selene vomer is more clear than a moon fish. I think they're both really cool. I think they're awesome. I love moon fishes and Selene vomers.
You can find more about Selene vomers here.

Muskrat
I think these 2 muskrats are very cute. They eat water plants and shellfish. They are mammals. They live in water to keep them away from critters. They are excellent swimmers but they're slow on land. I think that they're very cute. I love muskrats!!
Okapi
They are related to a giraffe and a zebra. I think they are very cool because they have a deer head. And they have a long tongue. I think they are one of the coolest animals I've ever seen. I think they are awesoe because their tongue looks like a snake to me. They have giraffe feet.
Gerenuks
These are gerenuks. They look like a giraffe. I think they eat leaves off of trees. They eat enough plants to survive the habitat of dessert. I think these look like deer and giraffes. They are very cool. I wish I could see one and have one as a pet. One day I'm going to go to the zoo and look at them.

Pika
This is a pika. He looks like a gerbil, but he's related to rabbits. He's very fuzzy. I think he's very cute and I wish I had a pika. I would name it Claire. They eat plants and flowers. They play with squirrels. Here's a great video about pikas.
Matamata turtles
I love Matamata turtles, they are so cool. I'm going to tell you about them: they are large sedentary (they sit still for long times) turtles with snouts and a flat head. I saw a stuffed one yesterday at the Field Museum. Here is a link to more info and a cool photo.

More about gerbils
These are baby gerbils. They are 11 days old (I got the photo from this site.) They are very cute. I love baby gerbils. We have some gerbils and I hope we will get a boy gerbil so we will have baby gerbils. I really really really really really really love baby gerbils.
Baby gerbils wean when they are 3 weeks old. You have to be careful with them, don't clean their cage until they're 10 days old. It might upset the parents and the baby gerbils won't be happy. You have to take lots of care for baby gerbils.

One of my favorite horses, Holly
Hi, my name is Selene. I'm going to tell you about one of my favorite horses. Holly is a beautiful horse. She is half pony, half donkey. She is a mule and she's also a rescue pony. She lives at the Double J Riding Club. I go to the Double J Riding once a week for lessons.
